I have been working for Visiting Angels for about six weeks. So I applied, assuming they'd give some type of training.

Nope, I was hired on the spot. The "orientation" was all online and took like fifteen minutes. I had no previous health care experience and they did not even ask about my previous experience (I'm a college student). I was assigned a few shifts right off the bat.

I've basically been learning as I go and thank God I haven't really come across something too difficult. I'm always a little nervous I don't exactly know what I'm doing all the time and am scared I can't provide the care my client needs. I was talking to another VA who had her CNA certification and she said she gets paid the standard $8.25 as a regular employee. That's ridiculous.

Not to mention the crazy hours- some weeks I work 20 hours, but one week I only worked 9. 9 HOURS! If I would have known that the hours are so sporadic and there's no solid schedule, I would have gotten a regular summer job.

This company is not organized and it's all about the money for them. Sad for the older people that DEPEND on caregivers who really know what they're doing.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Location: New Braunfels, Texas

That's horrible! Thank you for sharing, you've just made a difference!

My neighbor was about to call them for his elderly wife that has dementia so he can run errands. I am printing this and a couple others and giving it to them.

Visiting Angels is non medical so you would not need previous health care experience. You are required to have a minimum of one year caregiver experience BEFORE being hired and they ask that in the interview.

One of the FIRST things they asked me when I called on the phone is if I had any previous experience AND it's also on the application. If you were honest and you have the experience you should not feel nervous helping clients. You are not guaranteed hours it's a part time job and if you make yourself available you get hours. I have had no problem getting hours.

Crazy hours is par for the course in this business. Perhaps this is just not the right type of work for you. They have no control over the hours available. They cater the their clients needs.

Why should a CNA get paid more if their job duties are the same?

Again Visiting Angels is NON-MEDICAL.

Seems to me like you were the one in it for the money if you didn't feel like you knew what you were doing but continued to accept hours.

Visiting angels is not a medical care company. They are a companion type assistance! They do not claim to give medical care.
